Envisioned and designed by Alserkal, Concrete is a venue that combines different fields into one establishment to favor creative growth and thinking. Concrete not only fosters creativity but showcases the aspect through its architecture which was completed by the Office for Metropolitan Architecture (OMA), founded by the widely known Dutch architect Rem Koolhaas. Concrete’s design is envisioned with the ability to transform, and a purpose which enables creative thinking to promote the concept of hosting international or museum grade exhibitions along with events ranging across the fields of design, art, performing art and fashion. The futuristic design is also shortlisted for the 2019 Aga Khan Award for Architecture.
Alserkal is a culturally enriched community-based enterprise which was initiated by Abdelmonem Bin Eisa Alserkal, who is an Emirati businessman and patron. The vision of Alserkal is to nurture and encourage a creative economy in different dimensions of the world and lead in a disruptive business framework which is expected to steer better visualizations and concepts than the OMA-designed Concrete.
The illustrious and eminent Alserkal Avenue which is located in Al Quoz industrial area features contemporary art galleries, non-profit organizations, and local organizations in an extensive 500,000 square feet space. The area has developed to become a breeding ground for performing art organizations, designers from various locations and craft spaces which has cultivated creative assets in the United Arab Emirates. Creating a collaborative environment, Alserkal Avenue is a great medium for various audiences to soak in the cultural richness that the United Arab Emirates has to offer.
