A presidential decree mandating equal wages for women and men in the private sector, came into effect on September 25, 2020.
The new law states that “female employees shall receive wages equal to that of males if they perform the same work or another of equal value.”
His Highness Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan, President of the United Arab Emirates said that women will be paid as much as men for the same job and wages will be determined by market standards and not gender.
The Ministry of Human Resources and Emiratization stressed that the new law would help strengthen the country’s regional and international status for upholding gender equality.
The UAE leads the region’s countries in bridging the gender pay gap according to a World Economic Forum report published earlier this year.
